Liezl Shnookal is an award-winning Australian author of contemporary fiction, known for her coming-of-age novels Nikki vs Jess and Off Track (second edition).
These novels explore friendship, identity, love, and loss through the lives of young women navigating family expectations and social pressures as they try to understand who they are and what they want from life. Both novels are inspired by real events and were awarded a Literary Titan Gold Book Award in January 2024.
Liezl’s work is grounded in character, place, and emotional truth, drawing on lived experience and observation to create stories that feel both intimate and relatable.
She has taught Creative Writing at Victoria University and holds a Master of Arts from Monash University, where she researched the praxis of writing fiction. She also completed a double major in English at La Trobe University.
