Black Saturday Bushfires: 17 Years On

Today marks 17 years since the catastrophic Black Saturday bushfires. I think of all the people we loved and lost on that horrific day, and still miss immensely. I also mourn the loss of so many animals and precious wildlife.

However, today I write this post to honour the survivors of Black Saturday. For against all odds, you managed to survive the raging inferno. And then – somehow – you managed to find the courage and strength to rebuild your shattered lives. So unbelievably difficult, but you did it.

So on this anniversary, I pay tribute to your resilience and all that you’ve managed to achieve in your life in spite of Black Saturday. And I continue to be enormously grateful to have you still with us.

My own story about sitting with survivors in the aftermath of Black Saturday can be read here.
