Reading Off Track for the First Time

Off Track: the first book I wrote. And for the first time, I’m actually reading it!

Not the kind of agonised reading I’ve done as part of the writing process. No, just reading, with the freedom to simply focus on the story.

And it is my story, after all. So I’m revelling in being back on Shoreham beach in the 1970s. I’m laughing at my teenage self as I look at the world through narrator Lucy’s eyes. And now, all these decades later, I’m surprised to discover that I finally understand exactly why a girl like Lucy (and me) could fall in love with a boy like Scotchie (Murray).

But reading my book is also a bit nerve-wracking, because I’m reading it aloud – into a microphone – and recording it, chapter by chapter.

For you see, I’m turning my book into an audiobook!

It’s a very slow process. Being who I am means that I want to get the reading exactly right, and then there’s the editing and effects to do. Slow, but exciting.

So I’m warning you: please don’t hold your breath in anticipation. I’m only up to Chapter 7, with another 24 to go. It will be quite a while before the audiobook is ready!

In the meantime, Off Track is still available as a paperback and eBook, and can be purchased directly from me here.

Or as a Kindle edition from Amazon.
